My name is Emily Anderson and I am a bow hunter. It’s true. I have found that this love of bow hunting seems to get in your blood and becomes a part of who you are. Bow hunters are a special breed. We have a bond with each other – a common thread of venturing into the woods carrying bows laden with arrows with the purpose of pursuing game up close and personal. The chase is sometimes so close that you can smell your prey. Yes, I am a bow hunter. For some reason every time I am introduced to someone new, the topic of the conversation always comes around to the fact that I love bow hunting. My mom especially likes to bring this up at various ladies luncheons and activities with her friends. While most would think this would elicit some strange looks or gasps from the ladies, I have to say it is surprising at how many join the conversation enthusiastically and we end up swapping game meat recipes and hunting stories. Although it probably helps that these conversations occur in a mountain town where trucks roll down Main Street covered in mud, and when wearing camouflage in the grocery store, people ask if you’ve had any luck. I started writing my blog, FromtheDraw.com (previously scentfreelipgloss.com), in 2009. It is simply an outlet where I can express my passion for bow hunting, and share my experiences with other hunters. I quickly realized after I began bow hunting that I needed to record the stories experienced while out in the field. The close encounters with animals, the camaraderie with fellow hunters, and even near death experiences, all deserved to highlighted and told to the world. Blogging was an easy way to do this and has provided not only a great outlet to express myself, but also to meet others just as addicted to archery as myself. I look forward to having an additional outlet as a PSE blogger to sharing my hunting stories!
So if I ever get the chance to meet you, and my mom is in the room, you can be guaranteed that she will proudly announce… “Did you know that Emily is a bow hunter?” And then the stories will begin. Maybe I should just start wearing a name tag that simply says “I am a bow hunter.”
Emily Anderson’s hunting journey began shortly after she got married. She enjoys the passions for the outdoors, hunting and fishing as a team with her husband. She established www.FromTheDraw.com as a way to share her stories as a female hunter. Emily lives in Colorado and is currently on an Elk hunt. She is now a PSE Staff Blogger and will be posting daily about her experiences and views on archery and hunting.
